BATESVILLE, Indiana, October 7, 2016 – As part of National Manufacturing Day, Hillenbrand, Inc. (NYSE: HI) celebrated its own Manufacturing Day event on September 14 at its corporate headquarters in Batesville. The event was co-hosted by Batesville Casket, Batesville Tool & Die, Heartwood, Hill-Rom and Wood-Mizer – all manufacturing companies with a presence in Batesville.
“Our Manufacturing Day was spent celebrating a community that was built on manufacturing,” said Joe Raver, President & CEO of Hillenbrand. “We had the opportunity to highlight our community’s multi-faceted approach to addressing a demand-driven workforce right here in Batesville. Hillenbrand and other local businesses have aligned our needed skillsets with our school system, and it was great to have the opportunity to share the resulting programs with other business leaders and elected officials.”
Nearly 80 business leaders, community officials and state elected officials were in attendance for the event, which featured Indiana Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb as keynote speaker, along with Indiana Department of Workforce Development Commissioner Steve Braun. Attendees heard from company executives and toured either a Hill-Rom plant or Batesville Casket’s Customer Business Center. Over lunch, they heard workforce presentations featuring Batesville Community School Corporation’s Chinese Language Immersion students, 8th grade students who participated in this summer’s Manufacturing Camp and the Batesville Co-Op program participants.
National Manufacturing Day was started in 2011 by the National Association of Manufacturers. The goal of Manufacturing Day is to address common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is – and what it isn’t.
“Hillenbrand and the Batesville community are true leaders in our state, not only in manufacturing but also in working to address the workforce issues plaguing our state,” said Brian Burton, President/CEO of the Indiana Manufacturers Association. “We need to continue to find ways to support the efforts of company leaders, like Hillenbrand, to further develop a workforce to meet the demands of the state’s largest industry employer – manufacturing.”
