Batesville, In. — Batesville High School students may apply for three separate scholarships administered by the Batesville Community Education Foundation (BCEF) through one common application this year. In addition to the James A. Fritsch Memorial Scholarship and the Mary C. Horstman Scholarship, a third scholarship targeting students who are pursuing a career in the science, technology, education, or math (STEM) fields has been added, thanks to a donation to BCEF from Hillenbrand and Batesville Casket.
“Through the generosity of these two companies, BCEF is offering a new $2500 scholarship for a student studying in a STEM field, which is a critical need in today’s business market,” said Anne Wilson, BCEF executive director. “We are grateful for their financial support of our mission and the graduates of Batesville High School.”
“We are very proud to support local students who will hopefully one day be our future workforce,” said Glennis Williams, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer for Hillenbrand. “Hillenbrand has a number of strong partnerships in this community that are helping us grow and develop talent locally, and this scholarship provides another opportunity for students and teachers to gain an interest in the manufacturing industry.”
The other two scholarships, the James A. Fritsch Memorial Scholarship and the Mary C. Horstman Scholarship, were established through the generosity of donors via estate planning. Three $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to recipients of the Fritsch Scholarship in 2018 and three $1,000 winners will be chosen for the Horstman. Including the Hillenbrand and Batesville Casket Scholarship, the total scholarship money to be distributed to BHS graduates this year by BCEF will top $20,000.
The BCEF common application, instructions, and details regarding all three scholarships may be found on the BCEF website. Scholarship applications are due to BCEF no later than 4:30 PM on March 1. Questions about the scholarships may be directed to Wilson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 812-934-2194.
